Goodbye Summer: Sunmark Staff Share Their Summer Must-Do Traditions

“Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer
Those days of soda and pretzels and beer
Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer
You'll wish that summer could always be here”

Those Nat King Cole hit song lyrics are from way back in 1963, but they still resonate as strongly as ever today. The pressures of life make you want to leave your cares behind when the weather is beautiful and head for the hills, or the beach, or the lake . . . or just about any place away from the hustle and bustle.

We asked Sunmark employees what their summer family traditions include. What is their one “must-do” activity that makes the summer complete?

What is yours, and have you done it yet this summer?

Shameia House, Schenectady (Broadway) Branch Member Relationship Concierge:

“Our family vacation is a must-do. So far, we have been to Hawaii, Cuba, Aruba, Bahamas, and more.”

Davya Paolucci, Senior Business Analyst, IT-Solutions:

“Family picnics and camping up on The Great Sacandaga Lake is our must-do. Every year we look forward to hanging out on the boat, tubing and laughing with family and friends on the lake. This has been a tradition with my dad since I was a baby and continuing it with my kids has been an amazing experience.”

Sharon Haher, Latham Branch Member Relationship Manager:

“My parents come home from Arizona every summer. I take them out once a week for dinner and we drive all over the northeast.”

Carlton Hill, Assistant Vice President of Payment Services:

“The one thing that is a must for my husband and I is his family's reunion that happens every July. My husband's extended family owns a camp on Loon Lake in the Adirondacks and that is where the reunion is held. It is a great time to reconnect, have great food, kayak, and simply relax.”

Antoinette LeBron, Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer:

“Short vacation trips - within 3-4 hours travel time. We relax and enjoy summer.”

Daniel Lewis, Brunswick Branch Member Relationship Concierge:

“My family gets together every Tuesday for a backyard BBQ, ya know burgers, dogs, grilled chicken and all that. Once those family get togethers start happening you know summer is here!”

Danielle Wattsman, Mortgage Department, Draw Management Administrator:

“Once it's summer we love to hit our favorite seasonal food stops- Jack's Hamburgers, Snowman's Ice Cream, & Kay's Pizza. I also love to take my daughters to see the NYC Ballet at SPAC. It's always such a fun day to picnic & watch the performance.”

Anna Hayes, Five Corners (Rotterdam) Branch Member Relationship Advisor:

My husband and I always have to do at least one track day at the Saratoga Race Course. We try to go on a giveaway day and make a whole day of it, with our cooler and blankets. Then we eat dinner at a restaurant out that way, one of my favorite places to eat is The Local Pub and Teahouse.

Jason Vengersammy, Credit Consultant:

“Coney Island or a family BBQ in Queens all the way! Born and raised in NYC, I still have a large number of family and relatives down in the Brooklyn-Queens area. As far back as I can remember - we have made it a "must-do" tradition of going to Coney Island, enjoying the boardwalk and/or the sights. If Coney Island does not work out, we still make it to NYC for a large BBQ/family reunion type event. Shish kebobs are a staple. Card games & dominos are also a must! ...and of course, I'm always dancing at these functions. We typically end the nights sharing stories about all our family and friends who are no longer with us. Not necessarily a somber moment more than it is one of celebration!”
