Sunmark Foundation Partners with the RED Bookshelf for a Children's Book Drive

2/4/26

The Sunmark Charitable Community Foundation is hosting a children's book drive to support The RED (Read Each Day) Bookshelf, a local nonprofit dedicated to inspiring young readers and distributing books throughout Capital Region neighborhoods. Community members can donate gently used children's books at any Sunmark Credit Union financial center now through February 14.

"Donate a book. Spark a reader," said Audrey Stone, Sunmark Community Engagement Manager and Executive Director of the Sunmark Charitable Community Foundation. "We’re excited to partner with the RED Bookshelf to help fill shelves and fuel imaginations across our community. Every donated book has the potential to inspire a lifelong love of reading in a child."

The donated books will help the RED Bookshelf continue its mission of inspiring kids to read and making books freely accessible through bright red bookshelves placed throughout neighborhoods in the Capital Region.

Community members are encouraged to drop off gently used children's books in good condition at any Sunmark Financial Center location during regular business hours. For a list of locations, visit sunmark.org/locations.

About The RED Bookshelf: The RED Bookshelf began in Albany in February 2009 as a neighborhood literacy program of the Center Square Association. As community support grew, the program expanded, adding more bookshelves throughout the area. In 2016, it became an independent nonprofit organization. Since its inception, The RED Bookshelf has distributed more than 160,000 books to children in Albany, making reading accessible to thousands of young people.
