Sunmark 2022 Year in Review

Each year, Sunmark Credit Union strives to make our mark in the communities we serve. As we celebrated our 85th anniversary in 2022, it was more important than ever to give back and show our members how much we appreciate them.

With the number 85 in mind, we created goals for both the credit union and our charitable community foundation. Some of these goals included increasing our membership to more than 85,000 total members and donating $85,000 to local community organizations. As our year-long 85th anniversary celebration continued throughout the year, our members were diligent in helping us reach those goals. We’re thankful to report that by the end of 2022 we successfully donated $85,000 and eclipsed 85,000 total members. While reaching these benchmarks was cause for celebration alone, we’re happy to say that those were just a couple of ways we were able to make a positive impact for our members.

In addition to distributing $85,000 to community organizations throughout the year, the Sunmark Charitable Community Foundation also gave their time. In total, the foundation spent more than 1,700 hours volunteering in 2022. Whether it’s time or money, charitable giving within the communities we serve remains one of Sunmark’s deepest rooted values. The work of our foundation allows us to amplify our efforts to operate by the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.”

Apart from the great work of the Foundation, frontline staff inside our branches and member service center continued to help members bank brighter. In 2022, branch staff printed nearly 21,000 debit cards, ensuring members had safe and swift access to their funds. Located in our Latham headquarters, the Sunmark Member Solution Center continued to provide direct and unmatched assistance. In total, more than 271,000 calls were answered, giving callers access to real members of the Sunmark Squad. In addition to reaching us by phone, members continued to utilize the chat feature on sunmark.org. On close to 19,000 occasions, members received assistance directly from Sunmark employees through the website chat.

Sunmark’s commitment to service of our communities and our members led the credit union to continued growth in 2022. In addition to eclipsing the 85,000 member mark (ending the year with 88,055), the credit union surpassed $1 billion in assets. Not only is Sunmark a place where community members want to do their banking, but it’s a place where community members want to work. For the 18th time in 19 years, Sunmark Credit Union was named to the Albany Business Review’s “Best Places to Work”. It’s our belief that the relationship our members have with the Sunmark Squad makes our work more meaningful and creates a brighter banking experience for our members.

As we progress into 2023, we look forward to building on these successes and continuing to make our mark.
