Bickford Landscaping has been providing landscape maintenance and installation solutions to the Capital Region since 2012. They pride themselves on their philosophy of going above and beyond for their clients and being exceptionally easy to do business with. Their professionalism and trustworthy approach have helped Bickford Landscaping grow an amazing client base that they love working with.
When it was time to start his own business, Robert Bickford reached out to Sunmark Credit Union. “We had heard amazing things about Sunmark and decided to give it a try. We love how Sunmark is local and gives back to our community and it seemed like it would be the right fit from a variety of different standpoints - and we were right.”
Robert also discovered some similarities with Sunmark and his own business model. “Just like we put our team and clients’ needs before all else, Sunmark does the same with their team and clients. Everyone in the branch knows me by name and goes above and beyond every time I need help with something. I’ve never felt so at home at any other financial institution.”
Once Robert had his financial partner in place for Bickford Landscaping, one of his biggest challenges was keeping up with the increasing demand for their services. “We grew so rapidly that at times it was difficult to find enough qualified team members to serve all our clients,” Robert said. A few years ago, they made their team the number one focus and started to treat them like family. Today, they have a core team of individuals who have been a part of Bickford Landscaping for years, including a few new faces this season.
If he were to start over, one thing Robert said he would have done differently is put more of a focus on his team early on since they are the biggest reason for Bickford Landscaping’s success. But what does success mean to Robert? “If at the end of the day our clients and our team members are smiling, we know it was a success. Our reputation in the community is extremely important to us, so we are committed to doing the right thing in every situation. Money comes and goes, but people are the most important part of what we do.”
Robert shared that his overall experience working with Sunmark in one word is “amazing.” “When we need something, Sunmark is always there to help. They make us feel like we are their most important client.”
